WATER AND LIFE
The French NGO Eau et Vie (Water and Life) is acting since 10 years for the improvement of the living conditions for communities in depressed urban areas through access to water supply and essential services.
The model of intervention is based on the creation of two complementary entities:
- A local NGO/Foundation acting for incubation of activities, community mobilization through awareness-raising sessions, firefighting trainings and creation of local committees
- A social enterprise acting as a local operator, a proximity utility for water supply and essential services
Context in Bulgaria
In Sofia, some communities are living with low income and facing hard living conditions, having no legal access to water supply and sanitation. In this context, Water and Life conducted a study in several neighbourhoods in Sofia to evaluate the living conditions and the access to water supply and sanitation services in these areas.
Following the incomes of this study assessing the needs of the communities and the strong potential of developing a pilot project, Water and Life is now in the process of development and design of a pilot project for legal and sustainable access to water supply and sanitation.
