The Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology (CPSBB) offers the following position:
System Administrator (Network, Virtualization, and User Support)
Occupation: Full-time
Period: Fixed-term contract, initially one-year with possibility of extensions up to 6 years

CPSBB is a leading plant science research organization located in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The financing of the position is carried out with the financial support of the Executive Agency „Programme Education”, „Research, Innovation and Digitalization for Smart Transformation” Operational Programme, Project: Sustainable development of the Center for Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology (CPSBB), Agreement № BG16RFPR002-1.014-0003-C01
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Systems Administrator to support the daily IT operations of our bioinformatics and scientific computing infrastructure. You will be responsible for maintaining servers, networking equipment, storage systems, and virtual machines, while assisting scientists with computing resources and resolving technical issues.
Job requirements:
• Master’s Degree in an IT-related field and/or 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Solid knowledge of Windows Server administration (2022 or similar).
• Experience with VMware vSphere or other hypervisors.
• Strong networking knowledge, including routers, switches, cables, and protocols.
• Basic Linux knowledge for bioinformatics environment support.
• Good troubleshooting skills and quick response attitude.
• Ability to communicate with non-technical users.
• Fluent in Bulgarian, good working level of English (spoken and written).
Key responsibilities:
• Manage and monitor physical servers, network devices, and storage systems.
• Maintain the Active Directory structure, ensuring the proper organization, management, and health of AD objects.
• Configure and manage networking devices and infrastructure.
• Assist users with IT problems: network outages, application errors, access control.
• Assist scientists with data transfers and computing resource allocation for research workflows
• Plan and manage backups; monitor RAID and storage health; perform updates.
• Document IT systems, configurations, procedures, and incident resolutions
Optional qualifications:
• Experience with HPC (High Performance Computing) clusters.
• Familiarity with Infortrend storage systems.
• Basic scripting (PowerShell, Bash).
• Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and pipelines (e.g., Galaxy, Nextflow, etc.).
• Interest in AI/data analysis – ability to support future deployment of locally hosted large language models (e.g., LLaMA, OpenChat, DeepSeek or similar)

• Initial gross salary of 4300 BGN, including social and pension benefits.
